| Troubleshooting CMail Server gives a 'Could not create SMTP/POP3/Web Socket'
error on startup and aborts the application launch.
SYMPTOMS
CMail Server gives a 'Could not create SMTP/POP3/Web Socket' error on startup and
aborts the application launch.
CAUSE
When CMail Server starts, it immediately attempts to create listening sockets for SMTP,
POP3 and Web Interface connections on the port numbers that are specified on the SMTP
Configuration, POP3 Configuration and Web Interface menus (defaults of 25, 110 and 8002).
The error message is generated when CMail is unable to establish connections on these port
numbers. The most common is when another application, such as another mail or proxy server
has been started on the system first and has already established listening sockets on the
ports required by CMail.
RESOLUTION
Terminate any applications (especially Internet related) that may be running on the system
and causing conflicts and restart CMail Server.
