Q: When I use CProxy with SCM, the connection is dropped after 3 minutes when I am browsing from the Server, why?

A: This is a common problem with Internet Explorer 5. With IE5, Microsoft introduced a new feature whereby individual proxy profiles can be specified on a per-phonebook entry. This means that if you have connections with two different ISP's, you do not have to re-setup the proxy settings everytime you connect to the alternative ISP.

This also means that the LAN proxy settings become redundant. Because the server machine connects through the modem or RAS device, Internet Explorer ignores the proxy settings under LAN Settings and will access the Internet directly through the modem. As CProxy doesn't detect data transfer, it does not issue a keep-alive request to SCM and thus the connection is dropped.

To resolve this problem, you need to setup proxy settings on the dialup connection used by SCM. In Internet Explorer 5, click on the Tools > Internet Options menu and select the Connection tab. Highlight the dialup connection used by SCM and click the Settings button directly to the right. In the middle section enter the LAN IP address of your proxy server and any port numbers required. Press OK and OK to complete the setup.
