| ICQ Configuration To configure the ICQ chat client for use with CProxy Server, follow the
steps outlined below.
DNS Configuration (Windows NT4)
ICQ uses the SOCKS protocol to circumvent firewalls and proxy servers. In order to use
SOCKs, the machine running ICQ must be able to resolve domain names which is done using
DNS (Domain Name Service).
- Launch the Network menu from Control Panel.
- Click the Protocols tab, highlight TCP/IP
and click the Properties button.
- Click on the tab labeled DNS and provide your system with a
Hostname and a Domain.
- Click Add in the DNS Server Search
Order section of the network menu.

CProxy Server: DNS
Configuration
- Enter the IP address of the workstation running CProxy
Server in the DNS Server field and click Add.

CProxy Server: DNS
Configuration
- The IP Address you entered will appear in the DNS Server
Search Order list.
DNS Configuration (Windows 95/98)
- Launch the Network menu from Control Panel.
- Highlight the TCP/IP Protocol bound to the Ethernet adapter
and click Properties.
- Click on the tab labeled DNS Configuration.
- Click the radio box labeled Enable DNS and
enter a hostname and domain in the relevant fields.
- Click the Add button in the DNS Server Search order section
of the menu.
- Enter the IP address of the workstation running CProxy
Server and press OK.
CProxy Server: Windows
95/98 DNS Configuration
- The IP address entered will appear in the list of DNS
Servers. Press OK to quit the Network menu.
CProxy Configuration (All Platforms)
- Select SOCKS Options from the Options
> Protocol Options menu in CProxy Server.

CProxy Server: SOCKS
Options
- Enter the IP address of your Internet Service Providers DNS
server in the DNS Address field.
- Press OK and then select Save
Settings from the File menu to write the changes to disk.
ICQ Configuration (ICQ99A)
- Select Preferences from the ICQ menu.
- Click the tab labeled Connection.

Mirabilis ICQ: Firewall/Proxy
Settings
- Click the radio box labeled I'm using a permanent
internet connection (LAN).
- Check the radio box labeled I am behind a firewall
or proxy.
- Press the Firewall Settings button.
- On the Firewall Settings menu, select the radio box labeled I
am using a SOCKS5 proxy server and press Next.

Mirabilis ICQ: SOCKS5
Host
- Enter the IP address of the workstation running CProxy
Server in the SOCKS5 Host field. Ensure the port number matches the SOCKS
port specified in the SOCKS options menu in CProxy (default 1080) and press Next.
- Click Check my FIREWALL/Proxy Setting to
check the configuration. (CProxy must be connected to the Internet and the user must be
logged in to CProxy if using User Logins).

Mirabilis ICQ: Test
successful.
- On the Test Successful message, click Done
to complete the configuration.
